We are seeking a Development Geologist, with expertise in advancing greenfields from appraisal to full field development projects, to join our Southern Unconventional Characterization Division (SUCD) within the Emerging Unconventional Assets Department (EUAD).
The SUCD is responsible for the evaluation and de-risking of tight-sand gas reservoirs and play concepts within the Kingdom, through initiating and executing integrated subsurface projects to guide drilling campaigns, and support production engineering for stimulation and hydraulic fracturing operations. In addition, the division is also supports the planning and execution of field development plans, to meet gas production targets from this unconventional resource.
Your primary role will be to integrate regional to field-scale geological evaluations, create fit-for-purpose geological models for hydrocarbon in–place assessment, and participate in integrated reservoir management.
As the successful candidate you will have a Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a related science. An advanced degree is preferred.
You should have 20 years of experience, with at least 5-10 years in unconventional plays, including shale or tight gas, with some North American experience in unconventional hydrocarbon basins required. We will consider candidates with more or less experience, depending on the quality of their experience.
You will have experience in building, maintaining, and evaluating large, complex geological models utilizing geological modeling software.
You will also have knowledge in the integration of sedimentology, depositional environments, petrophysics, and geomechanics.
Experience with geosteering and working in real-time operating centers is beneficial.
Previous experience working with reservoir engineers and reserve auditors to determine reserve estimations, working with the field production, and drilling departments on well performance and optimization is preferred.
Duties & responsibilities
You will be required to perform the following:
- Use geological models to recommend placement of wells and supplementary processes to enhance production.
- Identify opportunities for workovers, infill drilling, and multi-well pad optimization.
- Perform complex geological assignments, such as resource assessments, and create volumetric calculations to determine reserve estimation.
- Document models in written reports, and illustrate with cross sections, maps, cross plots, histograms, and summary tables.
- Work closely with drilling, production engineering, and reservoir engineering teams, and champion operational activities from planning to execution.
- Evaluate current practices to identify improvement opportunities.
- Present methodology and project evaluation to technical management.
- Provide recommendations and advise in a particular area of expertise.
