Aramco was a “Diamond” sponsor at this year’s Singapore’s International Energy Week (SIEW), organised by the Energy Market Authority of Singapore, which gathered global energy and industry professionals to discuss the energy transition plan and the developing global energy trilemma between energy security, affordability and sustainability. This year’s SIEW, held from 27 to 31 October, was held in conjunction with Singapore’s 60th year of independence and convened discussions around the theme of “Envisioning Energy Tomorrow, Building Systems Today”.
SIEW Fireside Chat
Mr Yasser M. Mufti, Executive Vice President, Products and Customers, spoke at an exclusive Fireside Chat held during the SIEW Summit. During the Fireside Chat, Mr Mufti shared Aramco’s perspective on the energy transition, and positioned it as an energy addition, emphasising the importance of a global transition to a sustainable energy future. Spotlighting Asia as an exemplary region in which there has been a successful energy addition, Mr Mufti cited Singapore’s announcements to explore biomethane as a low-carbon fuel, the potential deployment of nuclear energy, and added that “hydrocarbons should be produced more responsibly, transported more responsibly; and the conversion of these molecules into energy, as well as building blocks for transition services and goods, is absolutely essential.”
Mr Mufti further discussed the importance of energy security, stating that “the fact that we’ve had geopolitical disruptions and not have prices skyrocket, is a function of the investment that many companies, including Aramco, have done to ensure the security of supply. Despite the troubles that we’ve had in different parts of the world, the supply of energy, both oil and gas, has flowed to the demand centers in Asia and I think it’s a wonderful example of energy security at play.”
SIEW Energy Insights
The Energy Market Authority of Singapore and Aramco also co-hosted a SIEW Energy Insights event held on 29 October, where Mr Mohammed Y Masrahi, Director of Global Analysis, Aramco, had an opportunity to speak about the critical role of energy in ensuring food security. Mr Masrahi said, “within the next few years, we will see a 30-40% increase in food demand which will translate to another 30% increase in energy demand within the food sector. This is why we need to understand the interlinks between food and energy, and what kind of energy sources we need to feed the population.”
