Aramco Asia and Enactus launch regional innovative challenge

The Aramco-Enactus Initiative aims to improve communities through social innovation projects by undergraduate students in Asia

Aramco Asia jointly launches the "Aramco-Enactus Innovative Challenge" with Enactus today as part of the company’s CSR initiatives.

The ten-month program is designed to help university students in five Asian countries including China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the Philippines develop innovative solutions that address issues related to climate change, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency in their communities.

"At the heart of this citizenship program is our core belief in protecting and preserving the environment for the future generation, and exerting positive influence on a global scale. Empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs and innovators to come up with solutions that help their communities reinforces our belief and reaffirms our commitment to Asia where we have a strong presence," said Mr. Nabil Al-Nuaim, president and CEO, Aramco Asia.

Open to all institutions of higher learning in China, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea and the Philippines, the "Aramco-Enactus Innovative Challenge for Energy, Environment and Climate Sustainability" will run from December 2016 to September 2017. Workshops will be conducted and the undergraduate students will develop and present their projects for judging at the local competition. Winners from the local competitions will then advance to the "Aramco Asia Cup" Finals to be held in Beijing, China in November 2017.

"We are very excited about the Aramco-Enactus Innovative Challenge. We hope that the program can be a regional platform for cross-cultural exchange of ideas on sustainability while providing the students an opportunity to hone their entrepreneurial skills," said Mr. Waleed Al-Helal, director Public & Government Affairs, and Aramco Asia.

"Enactus Singapore is very excited to partner Aramco Asia in this Innovative Challenge focusing on climate change, environmental sustainability and energy efficiency. Singapore has recently ratified the Paris Agreement and Aramco's support allows us to support government’s commitment to climate action. The Aramco-Enactus Innovative Challenge aims to inspire students from a wide range of disciplines to design solutions that will address these issues and improve the lives of those in the society," said Mamie Cheong, CEO, Enactus Singapore.
